Repairs

This page is in it’s infancy.  Our plan on this page is to post about different errors or problems we may find.  The purpose is to try and help you.  We become frustrated on many occasions when trying to find fixes for strange problems, sifting through all the different forums and sites is a big waste of time.  So we want to document the problems and have them in an easy to find place.

Dell Inspiron 1526 – Battery will not charge

When researching this problem I found a lot of frustrated and goofy posts.  I love how a lot of these people think they know what is going on or know what they are doing, when they do not!  The information I found inspired me to make up this quick guide because you shouldn’t have to dig through 4 pages of posts and several different web sites of bad information.
There are several possible causes for this problem.  Proper troubleshooting will help you eliminate items and test other items.  I would suggest that you try the first few fixes before going out and buying anything, UNLESS there are reasons to.  Such as dropping the laptop, you could have damaged the dc jack.  The charger sparked or doesn’t have a green indicator light when plugged in, most likely it is defective.

Solutions:
1. Flash the BIOS
2. Uninstall devices
3. Replace the battery
4. Replace the charger
Now I suggested this order of repair to try and save you some money.  The customer that had this problem bought a new battery from us and we tested it with a charger we had on hand.  So essentially we tried all 4 options above, the only one that fixed it for us was #2.  It seemed strange to me but it actually worked!  Here is the proper sequence to remove the drivers:
1.Boot the computer with the charger attached
2. Open Device Manager
shut down the computer, remove the charger
3. Turn the computer on with just the battery, after the desktop appears then shut it down again
4. With the computer off now after that shut down, plug the charger in and turn the computer on
5.It should start charging!

Dell Inspiron 8100 – PXE-E05 error on boot

Ok, I will be the first one to post in our repairs section. This section after all is here to help you the first time, with a solution, and not a format, reinstall solution.

Problem:
I am working on a Dell Inspiron 8100 which has given me a little of a headache. It came in for a Spyware/Malware cleanup, a pretty routine thing. Ran Super Anti-Spyware, then rebooted. Low and behold I get the PXE-error. Now you would think with the age of the laptop it would be well documented. Well finally it will be.

Solution:
First I pulled the hard drive, no go, still received the error. After letting it sit awhile I decided to pull the wireless card. What do you know? Boots fine now. So for any of you that may get stuck on this try pulling your wireless card. It is located on the bottom of the laptop, middle right. Let me know if this helped you out at all, as it sure would have been nice to have a simple solution like this when I was looking.

This was a fun laptop to work on though. It had two CD drives for some reason, which looks pretty cool when they are both open!
